Chelsea defender Ashley Cole's new contact at Stamford Bridge is reportedly worth £200,00 a week, making him the highest paid defender in world football.
Cole ended recent speculation over his future by signing a one-year contract extension last weekend despite being linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich has agreed to a pay increase because he feels that it would cost more than £15m to replace Cole in the summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Chelsea are expected to formally announce Cole's contract extension before Wednesday's League Cup decider against Swansea City.
The 32-year-old played for Chelsea yesterday in their 2-1 win over his former club Arsenal.
