Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news and rumours, including Chelsea legend David Luiz back to Europe and a contract boost for a Nottingham Forest star.

Chelsea legend David Luiz is seemingly likely to make a return to Europe before the end of the January transfer window.

The 37-year-old has represented the Blues on two occasions, Benfica, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal during a glittering career.

Flamengo has been Luiz's home since 2021, where he won four pieces of silverware including the Copa Libertadores, but the veteran is now a free agent.

However, according to agent Julio Taran who was speaking to journalist Johnny Georgopoulos, discussions are being held with Greek giants Olympiacos.

Turan said: "Yes, there are chances David Luiz will play for Olympiacos. We are in contact with the Greek club."

Olympiacos star Rodinei is close friends with Luiz and is said to have pushed for the arrival of the player as the club bid to win the Greek top-flight title and reach the latter stages of the Europa League.

Forest closing on Wood agreement?

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are allegedly pushing hard to reach an agreement over a new contract with Chris Wood.

The New Zealand international is currently spearheading Forest's surprise charge for the Premier League title and a Champions League spot, contributing 12 goals from his 20 appearances in the top flight.

Given the 33-year-old's form is coinciding with his contract having just six months to run, Wood is naturally being linked with a move elsewhere.

According to former scout Mick Brown, who was speaking to Football Insider, there is an urgency from Forest to get a fresh deal penned.

He said: "Forest have considered the fact that replacing Wood with somebody who can score the same volume of goals would be a very expensive deal.

"So it makes sense to tie him down and keep him at the club for as long as they can – and from what I've heard, they're desperate to do so."

Even if Forest do not agree new terms with Wood before the end of the month, it is extremely unlikely that any offers would be considered for his signature.

Southampton braced for Walker-Peters bids?

Southampton are allegedly expecting to receive bids for Kyle Walker-Peters before the end of the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old has been a loyal servant to the Saints, making 185 appearances in all competitions since joining from Tottenham Hotspur - initially on loan - in 2020.

However, the England international now has less than six months remaining on his contract and Southampton's likely relegation from the Premier League essentially means that a new deal will not be signed in the short term.

According to Football Insider, Southampton's hierarchy acknowledge that cut-price proposals for the versatile full-back are now likely.

Former club Spurs, West Ham United and Leicester City have all been credited as admirers of Walker-Peters in the past.

Despite not being short of admirers at this stage, Walker-Peters may plausibly wait until the summer to become a free agent.
