Liverpool to battle PSG for Chelsea defender?

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to rival Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly keen to sign Chelsea defender Levi Colwill during the summer transfer window.

Ahead of this season, Colwill was left with a decision to make regarding his future having impressed during a loan stint with Brighton & Hove Albion during 2022-23.

Colwill ultimately decided to commit his future to a club who he had represented since under-nine level and is a major part of the project at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old is regarded as a key man by Mauricio Pochettino, making a total of 27 starts and five substitute outings in all competitions this campaign.

While many of those appearances have come in the unfamiliar role of left-back, Chelsea view Colwill as a long-term occupant of a central position in the defence.

Liverpool, PSG monitoring situation?

Nevertheless, the situation could potentially become complicated should admirers emerge for the England international at a time when the West Londoners may need to make a big-money sale.

Chelsea are yet to attract suitable offers for the likes of Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja, academy graduates who would likely be sold for the right price in a bid to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Chelsea officials are anticipating that they will receive attractive proposals for Colwill when business reopens in June.

The report suggests that Liverpool and PSG are each contemplating whether to make an approach and what fee to offer should they do so.

However, it is further indicated that Colwill would not necessarily jump at the chance to depart the West Londoners for another club at this stage of his career.

Colwill has only made 86 senior appearances across his career and they have come at three different clubs, initially with Huddersfield Town in the Championship.

Where would Colwill fit in at Liverpool or PSG?

Although he would face stiff competition for a starting role at both clubs, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he would immediately command a spot in the first XI.

Liverpool allegedly want to lower the age of their defensive contingent and Colwill could theoretically line up alongside Virgil van Dijk with Ibrahima Konate having not always been able to put together a run of games due to fitness issues.

When everyone is fit, PSG have Presnel Kimpembe, Marquinhos, Milan Skriniar and Lucas Beraldo at their disposal, but Colwill would likely earn a considerable amount of game time.

Having rejected offers of £40m last summer, Chelsea would demand well in excess of £50m if interest was received this summer, particularly with Colwill having a contract until 2029.
