Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho: 'No new bid for Everton defender John Stones'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says that the club have not made an improved offer for Everton defender John Stones.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that the club have not increased their offer for Everton defender John Stones.

The Portuguese coach suggested earlier this week that he would spend in excess of £30m to take Stones to Stamford Bridge.

The Premier League champions' initial £20m bid was knocked back by Everton, who are determined to keep hold of the 21-year-old defender.

Despite the Blues' interest, Mourinho told reporters in a press conference in the United States on Wednesday night that no fresh bid has been tabled and he is prepared to start the season with the squad that he already has.

"You are speaking with the manager of the best team in England," said Mourinho. "We are a top team, we have top players. We don't need other players, we trust these players."

Chelsea began their pre-season tour of North America last night with a 4-2 defeat to New York Red Bulls.
