Chelsea are reportedly in discussions with a Greek club for a loan deal involving David Datro Fofana.
Throughout the summer transfer window, the Blues were heavily linked with a wide array of experienced centre-forwards who could provide competition for Nicolas Jackson.
Although that was achieved by the acquisition of versatile attacker Joao Felix, Chelsea missed out on Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney.
As a result, the likes of Felix, Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu will challenge Jackson for a place down the middle of Enzo Maresca's attack.
Fofana has remained at the club despite failing to secure a transfer away from Stamford Bridge, theoretically remaining as an option to be reintegrated back into the fold.
However, according to Kieran Gill of the Daily Mail, who was commenting on X, Chelsea still want to find a new challenge for the striker.

Greece the most likely destination?
AEK Athens are allegedly in discussions with their Chelsea counterparts to negotiate a loan agreement for the 21-year-old.
The Yellow-blacks finished in second place in the Super League table in 2023-24 and have started this campaign by accumulating seven points from their opening three matches.
Having lost their grip of the league title, Matias Almeyda is eager to strengthen his squad as much as possible, Fofana seemingly an option to come into the final third.
Although Fofana only scored six times on loan at Union Berlin and Burnley last season, he made 21 starts and 11 substitute outings to enhance his development in the Bundesliga, Premier League and Champions League.
A move to AEK may be regarded as a backwards step, yet he would have the opportunity to represent a team competing for domestic silverware.

What is the state of play with other Chelsea players?
Winger Angelo Gabriel - who never played a competitive game - has been sold to Al-Nassr for just under £20m, handing Chelsea a major financial boost.
A loan switch for Ben Chilwell remains a possibility, albeit remote, while the likes of Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka have been brought back into Maresca's squad.
As it stands, it appears that Alex Matos, Harvey Vale and Deivid Washington are more likely to remain at the club and be used in the Under-21s.
Chelsea still have two foreign loan spots at their disposal if they can find a suitable club for any of the aforementioned players.
