Chelsea were reportedly told that they would have to pay Erling Braut Haaland a wage packet of £820,000 per week earlier this year.
At one point this summer, the Blues were strongly interested in winning the race for the Borussia Dortmund forward, aware that they faced minimal competition from rival clubs.
However, the European champions eventually switched their attention to Romelu Lukaku, signing the Belgium international from Inter Milan for £98m.
According to Bild, Chelsea reassessed their options when Mino Raiola demanded that Haaland earn more than £3m per month at Stamford Bridge.
The report adds that Raiola also wanted to be paid an agent fee of £34m with a wage on top of that figure also being included in any deal.
Haaland is now expected to remain at the Westfalenstadion for the 2021-22 campaign before clubs activate his alleged €75m (£64.18m) release clause over the coming months.
