Sporting Kansas edge past Chicago Fire

Sporting Kansas City defeat Chicago Fire 2-1 at Toyota Park in the MLS.

Sporting Kansas City have drawn level on points with Montreal Impact at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference with a 2-1 victory over Chicago Fire.

Peter Vermes's men started the match in blistering fashion, storming into a two-goal lead after just eight minutes.

Benny Feilhaber was the first to strike, before Graham Zusi found the top corner from distance to leave the hosts stunned.

However, they were back in the game before half time when Mike Magee fired beyond Jimmy Nielsen from just outside the box.

Kei Kamara, Claudio Bieler and Dominic Dwyer had chances to rescue a point for Chicago, but a strong Kansas back line held firm to clinch victory.

Insult was added to injury when Daniel Paladini was given his marching orders for a foul on Dwyer.

The result leaves Frank Klopas's side in seventh place, three points behind New England Revolution.
