Columbus Crew moved into the MLS Cup places in the Eastern Conference by thrashing Los Angeles Galaxy 4-1 this morning.
The hosts started well as Eric Gehrig met Federico Higuain's cross on 19 minutes, but saw his effort cleared off the line.
However, Columbus were soon ahead when Justin Meram's curling effort from distance proved too good for the despairing dive of Jaime Penedo.
On 33 minutes, the Crew had doubled their advantage after Meram turned provider for Ethan Finlay, and the midfielder powered the ball beyond the Galaxy keeper.
LA tried to muster a response before the break with Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane both threatening the Columbus defence, but failing to get on the scoresheet.
The Galaxy did manage to pull a goal back moments after the break, following neat build-up play from Keane and Dan Gargan, which gave Gyasi Zardes the chance to slot home.
Nevertheless, Columbus re-established their two-goal cushion through substitute Ben Speas, who scored within a minute of his introduction to all but seal the win for Gregg Berhalter's side.
They did add gloss to the scoreline, however, as Geancarlo Gonzalez added a fourth on 84 minutes to cap a rousing win for the playoff-chasing Crew.
