Ethan Finlay scores late equaliser to deny Real Salt Lake

Ethan Finlay comes to the rescue for Columbus Crew to hold Real Salt Lake to a 1-1 draw in Ohio.

Ethan Finlay scored a late equaliser for Columbus Crew in a dramatic 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake in Ohio.

Agustin Viana earned Columbus a penalty in just the 11th minute when he was fouled by Rich Balchan inside the box, but the opportunity was wasted by the hosts as Federico Higuain fired over from 12 yards.

Columbus continued to apply most of the pressure in the first half, with both Tony Tchani and Josh Williams seeing efforts saved by Jeff Attinella, but there was no way through before the break.

Luis Gil punished Columbus for failing to turn pressure into goals by finding space inside the box to slot home thanks to some questionable defending from the home side.

It looked like it would be a frustrating night for Columbus when Eric Gehrig headed wide from close range with less than 15 minutes remaining.

However, the hosts snatched a draw in the 88th minute when Finlay collected an inch-perfect pass from Ben Speas, before calmly slotting the ball past Steve Clark.
