Coventry City miss penalty in Yeovil Town draw

Coventry City have a penalty saved as they draw with Yeovil Town in League One.

Coventry City were left to rue a missed Gary Madine penalty as they were held to a draw by bottom-of-the-table Yeovil Town this afternoon.

The Sky Blues could have forged an early lead had Madine been able to make a significant connection with Reda Johnson's cross from the byline.

Andy Webster saw another effort blocked and Jordan Willis failed to hit the target with a free kick as Steven Pressley's men failed to make the most of their initial chances.

Instead, Yeovil nearly made the visitors pay for their profligacy when first Kieffer Moore and then Alex Smith went close to finding a breakthrough before half time.

Coventry were awarded a penalty within moments of the restart when Johnson was bundled over in the box by Seth Twumasi, who was replaced soon after.

However, Madine was unable to convert his spot kick as Aston Villa loanee Jed Steer reached down low to tip away.

Yeovil enjoyed a purple patch midway through the second period as Liam Shephard and Ajay Leitch-Smith had chances to score for the League One bottom side.

However, they nearly succumbed to a late strike from Marcus Tudgay, but the substitute's shot was saved at point-blank range by Steer.

Coventry were made to settle for a draw that leaves them just three points above the drop zone, with many of the teams below them having games in hand.
