Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth turns down the chance to take over at League One side Crawley Town.

Aldershot Town manager Dean Holdsworth has rejected the opportunity to take up the vacant managerial post at Crawley Town.

The League One outfit are on the search for a new boss after Sean O'Driscoll left to take charge at Nottingham Forest before he had managed a competitive game for the club.

Holdsworth was reportedly offered a lucrative deal to replace O'Driscoll at Broadfield Stadium, but has revealed that he wants to stay and fulfil his current ambitions at Aldershot.

"I have got a lot of ambition but at this moment in time that is making Aldershot Town Football Club a better place to be and work," he said.

"I will try to fulfil an ambition of getting the team into the playoffs."

Shots chairman Kris Machala has said that he is delighted at Holdsworth's decision to stay with the club.

He told the club's official website: "Dean is highly regarded within the game and could have taken the opportunity to move. He received an overwhelming offer that would have been beneficial to him both on a personal and professional basis.

"I am delighted Dean has chosen to remain as manager of Aldershot Town Football Club and I have to place on record my sincere appreciation to an individual who has proved his loyalty and integrity."

Crawley have now turned their attention to Sheffield United Academy director John Pemberton as a leading candidate to take the post.
