Pape Souare: "I do not know if I can get back to football"

Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare is unsure whether he will recover fully from the injuries he sustained in a car crash on the M4 in September.

Crystal Palace left-back Pape Souare has expressed fears that his career could be over as he continues to recover from injuries sustained in a car crash.

The Senegal international, 26, suffered a broken thigh bone and jaw as he had to be cut out of his Mercedes and airlifted to hospital following the incident in September.

Eagles manager Alan Pardew said days after the crash that he expected Souare to be sidelined for up to six months, but the player himself is unsure.

"I don't know about my injury. I don't know if I can get back or not," Souare told BBC Sport. "I just put everything in the hands of God and we will see.

"The injury was very bad. I know I was very lucky. It could have been worse but I got my leg broke and my jaw. I couldn't eat for the first month. Now I can eat a little bit.

"The thing about my leg is I am trying to do the work to make it stronger with the physio at the club."

Souare joined Palace from French club Lille in January 2015.
