Steve Parish: 'Norwich City made bid for Dwight Gayle'

Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish confirms that Norwich City made a bid for Dwight Gayle on the final day of the transfer window.

Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish has confirmed that Norwich City made a bid for Dwight Gayle but the Eagles were not willing to let him go.

The Canaries were said to be looking to bolster their attacking options, and former Peterborough United man Gayle was linked with a switch to Carrow Road on the final day of the transfer window.

Parish has said that injuries to current Palace strikers, coupled with the sale of Glenn Murray to Bournemouth, meant that Gayle had no chance of leaving Selhurst Park.

"We did have a late bid from Norwich but we couldn't really take it seriously on the last day of the transfer window," Parish told Holmesdale Radio.

"We have injuries in the strikeforce at the moment and Dwight is an important part of what we're doing as well. Plus, once Glenn Murray had gone, there was no possibility of Dwight going anywhere."

Gayle had also been linked with Bristol City over the summer.
