Report: Aitor Karanka holds Crystal Palace talks

Jose Mourinho's former assistant at Real Madrid, Aitor Karanka, is reportedly the latest candidate to hold talks over the managerial vacancy at Crystal Palace.

Former Real Madrid assistant Aitor Karanka has apparently held discussions with Crystal Palace over their managerial vacancy.

The Spaniard, who was number two to Jose Mourinho at Los Blancos, followed the Chelsea boss out of the Santiago Bernabeu door this summer when Carlo Ancelotti brought in his own backroom staff.

According to the Daily Mail, Karanka, who has never managed a club side, met with Palace co-chairman Steve Parish last week to interview for the position of Eagles chief.

The Premier League's bottom club have been without a permanent manager since the departure of Ian Holloway last month, and have already spoken to Tony Pulis and Martin O'Neill about taking charge.

Karanka, 40, was a central defender for Madrid for five seasons, and had two spells at Athletic Bilbao in a playing career which saw him earn one cap for the Spanish national team.
