Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha insists that he was not being arrogant when he claimed that only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are better players than him and says that his words were taken the wrong way.

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha has denied that he was being "arrogant" when he claimed that only La Liga stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are better players than him.

The 20-year-old, who has received his first call-up to the senior England squad ahead of the international friendly against Sweden this week, was quoted as saying that he never thinks that other players are better than him.

Zaha tweeted: "My words were absolutely twisted and taken the wrong way in my last interview but I will learn from this and explain in further detail what I mean when I make certain statements. Thanks for all the supportive messages and those who understood my interview wasn't me trying to [be] arrogant."

Meanwhile, former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has claimed that the hype surrounding Zaha is premature.
