Crystal Palace are believed to be locked in talks with Queens Park Rangers over the transfer of midfielder Jordon Mutch.
The Eagles enquired about Mutch's loan availability last week and were told that Rangers would only do business if it was a permanent deal.
QPR are understood to want to recoup the £5.5m that they paid Cardiff City for him in the summer, but Sky Sports News claims that Palace are only willing to go as high as £4m.
The 23-year-old, who scored seven times in 35 games for Cardiff last term, started four of QPR's first five Premier League games this season, but has struggled to regain his place in the team following a couple of injuries.
Palace manager Alan Pardew is also looking elsewhere as he seeks to improve his midfield options this month, with Sevilla's former Hoops flop Stephane Mbia having been touted as an alternative.
