Preview: Cyprus Under-17s vs. Serbia Under-17s - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Thursday's European Under-17s Championship clash between Cyprus Under-17s and Serbia Under-17s, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

After beginning the European Under-17 Championship with a win, Serbia Under-17s will look to add three more points to their tally when they face Cyprus Under-17s in Larnaca on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the tournament hosts will be hoping to produce a positive response after suffering a heavy defeat in their tournament opener.

Match preview

Cyprus are competing in their first European Under-17 Championship after securing direct entry as the tournament hosts.

As the only debutants in the competition, they were given a harsh reality check in Monday's opening game against Czech Republic.

Chrysis Michail saw his side ship three goals in a 14-minute period to leave them with a mountain to climb at the break.

Cyprus went on to concede two more goals in the second half as the Czech Republic ran out 5-0 winners at the AEK Arena in Larnaca.

As a result of that heavy defeat, Cyprus will be eliminated with a game to spare if they lose and Serbia take a point from their meeting with Ukraine.

In contrast to their opponents, Serbia will be in high spirits after they got their campaign up and running with a narrow victory over Ukraine.

Dusan Makevic's second-minute effort proved enough to secure Serbia a precious 1-0 victory, leaving them well-placed ahead of the second round of matches.

They are looking to reach the knockout rounds for the third consecutive European Under-17 Championship after reaching the semi-finals in 2022 and the quarter-finals in 2023.

Serbia will secure their place in the last eight if they beat Cyprus and Czech Republic pick up at least a point in the group's other game.

Jovan Damjanovic's side will be confident that they can keep the tournament hosts at bay, having kept clean sheets in three of their last four competitive matches.

Team News

Cyprus defender Georgios Skafi is in contention to start after featuring as a half-time substitute against the Czech Republic.

Michail could be tempted to make a couple more changes, with Marios Chatzilefteri and Anninos Nikolaou among those who could be considered for a starting place.

As for Serbia, Andrija Maksimovic and Djordje Rankovic will be available for selection after serving one-match bans.

Mihajlo Cvetkovic will continue to spearhead Serbia's attacking efforts, having scored six goals in 14 appearances at Under-17 level.

Cyprus Under-17s possible starting lineup:
Michos; Petoussis, Skafi, R Dimosthenou, K Ioannou, Michalas; Chatzilefteri, Christodoulou; Evangelou, Nikolaou, P Ioannou

Serbia Under-17s possible starting lineup:
Jovanovic; Bubanja, Roganovic, Milosavljevic, Stojanovic; Makevic, Maksimovic, Vasilic; Kostov, Rankovic, Cvetkovic

We say: Cyprus Under-17s 0-4 Serbia Under-17s

Cyprus struggled to compete in their first-ever match at the European Under-17 Championship, and we think that they could experience another difficult outing against a Serbia side that will be full of confidence following Monday's win over Ukraine.
