Petr Cech insists that the Czech Republic deserved to beat Poland and progress at Euro 2012.

Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Cech has said that he and his teammates deserved to beat Poland and progress to the next round at Euro 2012.

The Czechs needed a point to progress prior to kickoff, but were forced to chase all three after Greece took the lead against Russia in Warszawa. However, Cech insists that the team never planned to depend on outside results.

"We let the occasion get to us a little bit," he said. "The home side capitalised on our mistakes.

"But with time we got better. We created chances and then scored a deserved goal.

"We knew the result [of Greece vs Russia], but we focused on ourselves, decided not to wait for miracles and to score ourselves instead."

The Czechs will take on the runners-up in Group B in the next round.
