Nicklas Bendtner admits that luck was on the side of Denmark after beating the Netherlands at Euro 2012.

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has said that "luck was on our side" after Denmark beat the Netherlands 1-0 to kick off Euro 2012.

Denmark, who were considered the rank outsider in Group B, overcame the 2010 World Cup finalists through a Michael Krohn-Dehli first-half strike. However, Bendtner admits that there was without doubt an element of good fortune involved.

"Starting the group well is what we dreamed of, and taking the lead in the first half was good for us," he told the official Arsenal website.

"We must admit that [the Netherlands] had chances to score as well, but the luck was on our side and we took full advantage of that.

"Now we just look forward to Portugal match."

The Danes meet the Portuguese in L'viv later this week.
