Derby County boss Steven McClaren has admitted that his team made hard work of their victory over Carlisle United in the first round of the League Cup.
The Rams eventually saw off the League Two side 2-0 on Monday night, though it took a late goal from Chris Martin to seal their progress.
Despite giving credit to Carlisle for their display during the match, McClaren believes that his side should have put the tie to bed earlier.
"We made hard work of it and should have had it finished a lot earlier, although give credit to Carlisle. We came through in the end and got a second goal, but it was a bit late for me," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
Derby continue their Championship campaign on Saturday with a trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
