Harry Redknapp joins Derby County as football advisor

Experienced manager Harry Redknapp joins Championship side Derby County as a football advisor.

Experienced manager Harry Redknapp has joined Championship side Derby County as a football advisor.

Speculation linking the 69-year-old with a role at Pride Park gathered pace this week and Derby have now confirmed that Redknapp has made the move to the Rams.

According to a statement on Derby's official website, Redknapp, who has signed a contract until the end of the season, will "assist head coach Darren Wassall and the rest of the Rams coaching staff".

"It is excellent news that Harry has agreed to join us. His experience spans over several decades and he is one of the most knowledgeable and informed figures in the game," Derby chairman Mel Morris said in a statement.

"When I spoke with Harry about the possibility of helping out on a short-term basis, it was evident from the start that he was excited at the prospect of joining us. I am sure he will perfectly complement Darren and the rest of our staff."

Redknapp added: "From the first conversation I had with the chairman it was clear he has exciting plans for the football club. I am delighted to be able to help out and am looking forward to working with Darren and his team."

The former Queens Park Rangers boss has also agreed to manage the Jordan national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bangladesh and Australia.
