Adam Rooney rescues point for Aberdeen at the death

Adam Rooney comes off the bench to rescue late a point for Aberdeen in their Scottish Premiership fixture against Dundee at Dens Park.

Adam Rooney came off the bench to rescue a 1-1 draw for Aberdeen late on in their Scottish Premiership fixture against Dundee at Dens Park.

With second place in the league wrapped up ahead of kickoff, the Dons rested several key players and started the match slowly, almost falling behind in the 13th minute when Greg Stewart shot inches wide from inside the box.

The Dons soon found their rhythm and goalscoring opportunities fell their way. Jonny Hayes forced a save out of Dundee keeper Kyle Letheren in the 23rd minute and David Goodwillie headed over moments later.

It was Dundee who took a slender lead into the break as Luka Tankulic was picked out inside the box by Jim McAlister, before tucking a shot into the bottom corner with three minutes of the first half left to play.

The Dee saw more of the ball in the second period, but it was the visitors who created the most chances in front of goal and they came close when Ash Taylor nodded narrowly wide in the 50th minute.

Barry Robson squandered several chances to level things up in the latter stages of the game, coming closest in the 58th minute when he was thwarted by Letheren.

The points looked to be in the bag for Dundee, but Aberdeen's top scorer Rooney entered the fray as a late substitute and rescued a point.

The prolific hitman was in the right place at the right time to scramble home a corner three minutes into stoppage time and end a run of two straight defeats for the Dons.
