Preview: Ferencvaros vs. Dynamo Kiev - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Champions League fixture between Ferencvaros and Dynamo Kiev, including team news and predicted lineups.

Ferencvaros and Dynamo Kiev meet in the Champions League on Wednesday evening knowing that defeat may realistically leave them out of contention to qualify from Group G.

These two sides suffered opening-matchday defeats to Barcelona and Juventus respectively last week, upping the stakes ahead of the contest in Hungary.

Match preview

Sergiy Rebrov has made a name for himself as a player and manager by winning 22 pieces of silverware during his legendary stints at Dynamo Kiev.

However, the former forward will be in the opposite dugout on Wednesday evening as he attempts to continue Ferencvaros' progression under his watch.

The Hungarian giants are competing at this stage of the competition for the first time since 1995 having come through four qualifying fixtures earlier in the summer.

With Juventus and Barcelona present in the group, the Zold Sasok are not expected to reach the last 16, but Rebrov will be eager to extend their run on the European stage by claiming third spot.

Succumbing to a 5-1 defeat at Barca did not come as a surprise, and Rebrov's squad were not lacking in confidence as they won their fifth successive win on the domestic front with victory over Ujpest at the weekend.

Rebrov will be hoping that forward Tokmac Chol Nguen can pick up where he left off after ending a six-match streak without finding the back of the net.

While Kiev ultimately suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Juventus, head coach Mircea Lucescu would have taken the positives from pushing the Italian champions for much of the contest.

Like their next opponents, the Ukrainian outfit will be realistic about their chances in this group, but they will want to remain in contention for as long as possible.

Victory in Hungary on Wednesday night would set up an intriguing double-header with a Barcelona side who have struggled for consistency since the beginning of the campaign.

Kiev currently sit in top spot in their domestic table after claiming 17 points from their opening seven matches.

Team News

Barring any late fitness issues, Rebrov should be able to select from a fully-fit Ferencvaros squad.

Nguen is likely to get the nod over Franck Boli in attack after breaking his duck at the weekend.

Kiev are without Georgi Bushchan and Vitalii Mykolenko, who have both recorded positive coronavirus cases in recent days.

Experienced number two Denys Boyko will return between the sticks, while Denys Popov could come into the middle of the defence.

Ferencvaros possible starting lineup:
Dibusz; Botka, Blazic, Kovacevic, Civic; Laidouni, Kharatin; Isael, Siger, Zubkov; Nguen

Dynamo Kiev possible starting lineup:
Boyko; Kedziora, Zabarnyi, Popov, Karavaev; Shaparenko, Buyalskiy, Sydorchuk; Tsygankov, Rodrigues, Pena

We say: Ferencvaros 1-2 Dynamo Kiev

Having been comfortably beaten at Camp Nou last week, Ferencvaros will hope that a return to familiar territory will aid their chances in what they will regard as a winnable fixture. However, Kiev's greater experience on the European stage could shine through in what should be a closely-fought encounter.
