Eibar up to eighth with 2-1 win at Espanyol

Two first-half goals help Eibar beat Espanyol 2-1 in La Liga and climb up to eighth in the league table.

Eibar are up to eighth place in La Liga after two goals in the space of two first-half minutes helped them beat Espanyol.

Espanyol dominated the early stages and will feel they should have made at least one of their chances count, but Paco Montanes and Victor Sanchez failed to make the most of decent opportunities.

Eibar, who were dangerous on the counter-attack throughout the match, punished the home side for their lack of ruthlessness after half an hour, when Saul drifted down the left flank and cut the ball back for Manu del Moral to fire the ball under the body of Kiko Casilla.

Things got worse for Espanyol just two minutes later Saul crossed for Eneko Boveda to head the ball into the ground and past the keeper from 10 yards.

Eibar had more chances early in the second half, but Espanyol went close to pulling a goal back several times through Anaitz Arbilla and Juan Fuentes, who should have done better when a cross from the right found him unmarked at the back post.

Felipe Caicedo then hit the bar with a header, but he made amends shortly after when he nodded in Arbilla's cross from close range.

However, they couldn't find the extra goal despite going close through Sergio Garcia in the final minute.
