Mark Sampson: 'England Women can become best team in world'

England Women manager Mark Sampson believes that his side can build on their World Cup third-place finish to become the top side in the world.

England Women manager Mark Sampson has claimed that his side can build on their Women's World Cup bronze medal to become the top side in the world.

The Lionesses exceeded all expectations in Canada to claim a third-place finish and become the first England side to win World Cup medals since the men's side of 1966.

Speaking ahead of next week's Euro 2017 qualifier in Estonia, Sampson told BBC Sport: "This is definitely the continuation of the journey. We have put the foundations in place to grow a team we feel can grow into the best team in the world."

England had previously never got past the quarter-finals of a Women's World Cup.
