Roy Hodgson: 'England miss Wayne Rooney'

Roy Hodgson says that England aren't as potent without the suspended Wayne Rooney.

England manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that his side are "less potent" without Wayne Rooney.

The Manchester United striker was absent from the 1-1 draw with France and will miss Friday's game with Sweden due to suspension. The Three Lions struggled to create many opportunities against Les Bleus on Monday, and Hodgson says that they miss Rooney.

"We have missed him, no question," Hodgson told BBC Radio 5 live.

"He is a world-class player and when we get him on the field we'll be a much stronger and more potent attacking force than when he's not playing.

"When you talk about Sweden, you talk about Zlatan Ibrahimovic and how important he is for them - how he can decide a game.

"Well, we have got one of those [players] in our squad. His name is Wayne Rooney."

Rooney has scored 28 goals in his 74 England caps.
