Rodney Marsh feels that Roy Hodgson can match Sir Alf Ramsey's achievements.

Former England international Rodney Marsh insists that new England manager Roy Hodgson can emulate Sir Alf Ramsey's achievements.

Ramsey is still the only England boss to have ever led the nation to any silverware after their 1966 World Cup win on home turf.

Hodgson got off to a win in his first game in charge of the Three Lions as England beat Norway 1-0 on Saturday, and Marsh believes that the former West Bromwich Albion manager can be a big success.

"As a former player and a former England international I think that Roy Hodgson is the closest thing to Sir Alf Ramsey that I have seen," Marsh told talkSPORT.

"If you look at the 1966 team it wasn't a flair team, it was about method, it was the wingless wonders. They ended up with results of 0-0 and 1-0 and keeping clean sheets.

"It wasn't great flair and I think that will probably be the way that Roy Hodgson plays but in today's football as we all know winning isn't everything, winning is the only thing."

Marsh earned nine England caps and scored one goal during his football career.
