Alan Shearer backs Ashley Young to shine

Former England striker Alan Shearer tips Ashley Young to shine at Euro 2012.

Former England striker Alan Shearer has tipped Ashley Young to be the breakthrough star of this summer's European Championships.

Young, 26, has scored five times in his last seven games for England and is likely to play a prominent attacking role in the first two games due to the absence of Wayne Rooney.

Shearer, who scored 30 goals for his country, believes that the Manchester United man looks relaxed when playing for the Three Lions, and that this will help him shine in Poland and Ukraine.

"I know he hasn't been a regular for United this season, probably due to fitness more than anything, but in an England shirt he looks comfortable and relaxed. I think he could have a good tournament," Shearer told BBC Sport.

England will face France in their opening match of the European Championships this afternoon, with Young expected to start behind Danny Welbeck up front.
