Prime Minister David Cameron has stated that he was "sorry" to see Fabio Capello leave as England manager.
Cameron also refused to be drawn on speculation linking Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp with the job.
"I'm sorry to see Fabio go. I think he was a good coach and a good man, I liked him. I don't think he was right about the John Terry issue ... but England now needs a new coach and a new captain and I hope we can get on with that and make sure we make the best of the opportunities this summer," Cameron told Sky Sports News.
"I'm sure we will find someone really good and I'm sure that we will play well when the time comes."
Harry Redknapp is the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Capello at the helm.
