Hodgson excludes Gerrard, Terry and Rooney

England manager Roy Hodgson has named a young squad to face Italy on August 15.

Hodgson has handed a first senior call-up to Tottenham Hotspur's Steven Caulker and Jake Livermore and Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand.

Michael Carrick has also been included for the first time since 2010, while there is no place for the likes of Steven Gerrard, John Terry and Wayne Rooney.

Gerrard's teammate Andy Carroll is included, however, alongside Jermain Defoe, Daniel Sturridge and Theo Walcott.

England squad to face Italy on August 15:

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland, Joe Hart, John Ruddy

Defenders: Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ryan Bertrand, Steven Caulker, Phil Jagielka, Kyle Walker

Midfielders: Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Frank Lampard, Adam Johnson, Adam Johnson, Jake Livermore, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jack Rodwell, Ashley Young

Forwards: Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe, Theo Walcott, Daniel Sturridge
