England's Wayne Rooney "not interested" in what his critics have to say

Wayne Rooney insists that he is "not interested" in what his critics have to say following comments made by Gary Lineker and Paul Scholes.

Wayne Rooney has insisted that he ignores comments made by his critics as he bids to prove his ability for England on the global stage at the World Cup next week.

Ex-players Gary Lineker and Paul Scholes have both criticised the Manchester United forward heading into the tournament in Brazil.

Lineker believes that manager Roy Hodgson should not be afraid to drop Rooney, while Scholes recently suggested that the forward had peaked too early.

According to ESPN, when asked about claims that he should be dropped, Rooney said: "I am not really interested. A lot of people have their opinions, but I listen to the people around me and in the coaching setup.

"I don't listen to people outside of the set-up really so anyone can say what they want. I have got no interest in listening to them."

Rooney ended his four-game scoring drought for England by finding the back of the net in the Three Lions' 2-2 draw with Ecuador in Miami yesterday.
