Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has admitted that he would have played for England at Euro 2012 but claims that he was not asked to by Roy Hodgson.
Many people were calling for Scholes to return for England at the tournament, with midfielders Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard both absent due to injury.
However, Scholes has revealed that he did not receive a request to come out of international retirement by Hodgson.
When asked if he would have rejected the chance to play at the tournament, the 37-year-old said: "I wasn't offered the chance.
"I've no idea. It was flattering to be talked about. But I wasn't asked, so it means nothing."
Scholes came out of retirement to return for Manchester United in January.
