Team News: Stewart Downing makes first England start in over two years against Scotland

Stewart Downing will start his first England game in two-and-a-half years in tonight's friendly against neighbours Scotland in Glasgow.

West Ham United midfielder Stewart Downing will start his first England game in over two-and-a-half years in tonight's friendly against neighbours Scotland in Glasgow.

The winger's impressive form for the Hammers this season saw him included in Roy Hodgson's latest squad and he is one of six changes made from Saturday's 3-1 win over Slovenia in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Fraser Forster replaces Joe Hart in goal and plays at his former ground Celtic Park for the first time since leaving for Southampton in the summer.

Elsewhere, Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw replace Phil Jagielka and Kieran Gibbs in defence, while James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain come in for Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling in midfield.

Hosts Scotland, meanwhile, make just one change from their vital qualifying victory over the Republic of Ireland on Friday.

It comes in attack, with in-form Derby County striker Chris Martin making his first international start in place of Sunderland's Steven Fletcher.

Scotland: Marshall; Whittaker, R.Martin, Hanley, Robertson; Maloney, Mulgrew, Brown, Anya; Naismith, C.Martin

England: Forster; Clyne, Cahill, Smalling, Shaw; Wilshere, Milner; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rooney, Downing; Welbeck
