James Milner has revealed that it is good to see a mix of youth and experience in the England squad ahead of Friday's World Cup qualifier against Moldova.
While veterans such as Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are in Roy Hodgson's 27-man party, there are also places for newcomers Ross Barkley and Andros Townsend.
"It's pleasing that we have some young players form the Under-21s stepping up," Milner told reporters. "It shows there is the quality there.
"It's a really good time to be in the England squad, we have a good mix of younger and older players.
"It doesn't take too much motivation to play for your country. Everyone is desperate to do their best for the Three Lions."
England start their match against Moldova at Wembley Stadium in second place in Group H, two points behind leaders Montenegro but with a game in hand.
