Former England manager Terry Venables is confident that the Three Lions will qualify for the World Cup next year.

Roy Hodgson's side came from behind to almost snatch a win against Brazil but a goal from Paulinho earned Luiz Felipe Scolari's side a draw in their clash at the Maracana Stadium.

Venables told The Sun: "Given the way we showed that famous bulldog spirit in the second half, I'm more confident we'll go through now than before the game.

"The confidence the players will get from this result should have a really positive effect. And Wayne Rooney will be walking a lot taller after his terrific goal.

"I think he watched Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain come on and make a name for himself and thought: 'Hang on, I want some of that too'. If they can inspire their team-mates to back themselves against any opposition, it looks good."

England are next in World Cup qualifying action in September when they face Moldova.
