Espanyol have signed Joan Capdevila from Benfica on a one-year contract for a transfer fee reported to be €350,000.
The Spanish club made the announcement on their official website on Friday, adding that the option to extend the left-back's contract by one more year has also been put into place.
Capdevila, who won Euro 2008 and 2010 World Cup with Spain and started his career with Espanyol in 1997, endured a disappointing time at Benfica last season, making just five appearances for the Portuguese club.
The 34-year-old is Espanyol's fourth signing of the summer after Diego Colotto, Sergio Tejera and Mubarak Wakaso.
