Leighton Baines coy on Euopean hopes

Leighton Baines says that Everton are not talking about the possibility of qualifying for European competition next season just yet.

Everton defender Leighton Baines has revealed that his side are not discussing the possibility of qualifying for Europe this season.

The Toffees are currently fifth in the Premier League table after coming from behind to beat Newcastle United 2-1 at St James' Park on Wednesday night.

Many have talked up the Merseysiders' chances of achieving European competition this year, but Baines insists that the players are taking the campaign one step at a time.

Asked what Everton might be able to achieve this season, Baines said: "We don't know [how far we can go]. We have not talked about it a lot.

"We just have to keep winning games and putting in good performances.

"If we can stay around the boys at the top as long as we can hopefully we will give ourselves something to go for at the end of the season."

Everton travel to Cheltenham Town in the FA Cup third round on Monday.
