Everton defender Sylvain Distin admits that their defeat to West Bromwich Albion made everyone at the club more realistic.

Everton defender Sylvain Distin has admitted that the defeat to West Bromwich Albion brought them back down to earth.

The Blues had made an impressive start to the Premier League with back-to-back wins over Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Those wins were followed up with a 2-0 defeat to West Brom at The Hawthorns and Distin has said that the loss was a sobering one.

"Maybe that [defeat] will have calmed everybody down – the players, the fans, everybody – and make us all a bit more realistic," said Distin.

"We know we're not going to win every single game but after those first two games against United and Villa, that's what the feeling was.

"At half time against West Brom it was 0-0 and we wanted to win the game. Maybe we wanted to win too much, we were too impatient and in the end we paid for that mistake."

Everton entertain Newcastle United on Monday night.
