Roberto Martinez: 'Bryan Oviedo could be fit for World Cup'

Everton manager Roberto Martinez reveals that Bryan Oviedo could return from a broken leg to play at the World Cup.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that Bryan Oviedo could be fit in time to join up with the Costa Rica squad for this summer's World Cup.

Oviedo broke his leg in two places in an FA Cup match against Stevenage in January but Martinez has confirmed that the 24-year-old is making good progress with his recovery.

"Bryan is well ahead in his recovery time," the Spaniard told reporters. "We have sent him back to Costa Rica because we are working with the national team who want to assess him.

"He saw an independent specialist this week in London before he went away and the specialist feels he can make the World Cup.

"That would be an incredible statement given he suffered the injury only six weeks ago at Stevenage.

"The World Cup is an incredible opportunity for him so that is why we are working together with the national team to try and get him fully fit."

Oviedo could now be in line to face England in Costa Rica's final Group D game at the World Cup.
