Roberto Martinez urges Ross Barkley to focus on Everton, not England

Everton manager Roberto Martinez urges Ross Barkley to put his focus into his club football as opposed to looking ahead to the World Cup with England.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes that midfielder Ross Barkley needs to focus on his club football rather than next year's World Cup.

The 19-year-old will try to secure a place in the England squad for the tournament in Brazil, but Martinez believes that it is too early for Barkley to concentrate on the World Cup.

"I don't think it is the time to consider the squad," Martinez told Sky Sports News. "I think the squad is going to be announced in June so, as you can imagine, in football a week is an eternity. In a few months, anything could happen.

"I think in football you need to concentrate on what is happening in your day-to-day work and that's where Ross is."

Barkley has so far earned three England caps.
