Graham Stuart: 'Credit Bill Kenwright and Roberto Martinez for Romelu Lukaku deal'

Former Everton striker Graham Stuart says that credit should go to Roberto Martinez and Bill Kenwright for sealing Romelu Lukaku's switch from Chelsea.

Ex-Everton forward Graham Stuart has praised Roberto Martinez and Bill Kenwright following the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

The Belgium international striker signed a five-year deal on Wednesday to break the club's transfer record with a £28m move.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: "It's a magnificent statement, and it is something all the Evertonians wanted and they've got their wish now.

"Great credit must go to Bill Kenwright, the chairman for coming up with the money for such a magnificent signing and well done to Roberto Martinez for being able to attract a signing like Romelu Lukaku.

"That's the going rate for centre-forwards nowadays Romelu is still young, he's 21 years of age, he's got an awful lot of work ahead of him. He knows that too, he says the right things, and I think Chelsea have had a bit of a chip at him and from my perspective, it's great for a young man to be as ambitious as he is. He wants to play every game and play every week and make a name for himself."

Meanwhile, Toffees manager Martinez has claimed that his new forward is "worth every penny".
