Everton announce that they have signed former Leicester City goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic on a short-term contract.

Everton have announced that they have completed the signing of goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic.

Although the summer transfer window closed on September 1, clubs who have space in their Premier League squads are in a position where they are able to sign free agents.

Toffees boss Frank Lampard has three stoppers at his disposal in the form of Jordan Pickford, Asmir Begovic and Andrew Lonergan.

However, that changed last week when it was revealed that first-choice Pickford had sustained a thigh injury which will keep him sidelined until next month.

Furthermore, Lonergan is also due to spend a significant amount of time in the treatment room, forcing Lampard to contemplate alternatives.

Despite Everton only being due to play one Premier League fixture for the rest of September, a decision has been made to sign Jakupovic on a short-term contract.

The 37-year-old has been without a club since he was released by Leicester City at the end of his contract earlier in the summer.

Although the former Switzerland international spent five years at the King Power Stadium, he made just four outings during his time in the East Midlands.

The last of those appearances came all the way back in May 2018 when he featured in the dramatic 5-4 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Before his period at Leicester, Jakupovic enjoyed better times at Hull City with 26 of his 53 games coming in the Premier League.
