Evian stun Nantes

Evian ease their relegation fears with a 2-0 win over Nantes in Ligue 1.

Evian TG scored twice in the second half to clinch a 2-0 win over Nantes in Ligue 1 this evening, easing their relegation fears.

The visitors made the brighter start of the two sides, as Fernando Aristeguieta had a couple of shots in the opening 10 minutes, but was unable to find the back of the net.

Djakaridja Kone had the hosts' first real chance of the meeting, but his strike from outside the box drifted just wide of the target 35 minutes in.

Evian continued to grow in confidence as the game progressed, and were able to break the deadlock just after the hour mark, as Cedric Barbosa drilled the ball in from an Olivier Sorlin through-ball.

Nantes tried to push for a quick equaliser, but the home defenders were well organised, twice leaving their opponents offside.

Daniel Wass was able to double Evian's advantage with just over 10 minutes left to play, curling the ball in from a 20-yard free kick.

Itay Shechter tested Jesper Hansen with a powerful strike in the final minutes of the match, but was unable to give Nantes some late hope.

The result leaves Evian in 17th, five points clear of the relegation zone, while Nantes sit 14th.
