Paul Tisdale: 'Exeter City won't underestimate Newport County'

Paul Tisdale warns his Exeter City players that they should not take Newport County lightly, as they seek a second win on the bounce in League Two.

Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale has insisted that his side will not take the three points for granted when they head to basement club Newport County.

It has been a tough start to the campaign for the Welsh outfit, who dispensed with manager Terry Butcher this week following a run of seven defeats from their opening 10 games.

With John Sheridan now in place at the County Ground, Tisdale has warned his players that they must remain focused if they are to maintain their promotion push.

"I have to say that while Newport have had a slow start to the season, from what we have seen they are capable of lots of good situations and don't look a disjointed team by any stretch of the imagination," he is quoted as saying by Western Morning News.

"They have got a lot of positive aspects about them. We are certainly not going take the game lightly. The three points are important for both teams so we can't assume, just by league position, that this will be a comfortable game.

"The result they had against Carlisle last weekend, against a team that had done extremely well the previous month, highlights that. We will got into the game with the necessary amount of focus and we will have to go and earn the points."

Exeter find themselves outside the League Two playoff zone on goal difference alone, while opponents Newport are two points from safety at the opposite end of the table.
