The FA Cup is reportedly under serious threat of being abandoned due to the coronavirus outbreak causing significant scheduling problems for English football.

The FA Cup could reportedly be abandoned as the sporting landscape continues to be affected by the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The world's oldest cup competition is currently at the quarter-final stage, but all matches in England's elite tournaments have been postponed until April 4 at the earliest due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to The Mirror, English football authorities are keen to make sure the tournament can be completed, but there are no current ideas as to when fixtures can be played.

The report also claims that the Football Association is reluctant to map out an action plan for the cup due to uncertainty over the future, despite suggestions that it could be continued as a mini tournament or the final played instead of the Community Shield.

The Premier League will reportedly hold an emergency meeting next Thursday in order to come up with a strategy for the remainder of the season.
