Paypal's partnerships with football organisations

Paypal's partnerships with football organisations

PayPal has recently linked with a number of football organizations, showing their support for the sport, including the players and supporters. They are assisting with the football industry's move from cash to digital payments, as well as raising funds for grassroots players and supporting local communities.

FA Partnership

The digital payment platform recently linked with the Football Association to be the official payment partner for their new app. Their investment in community sports is the first of its kind. The new FA Matchday App will allow players to pay their match fees online instead of in cash, and will also provide a platform for paying red and yellow card fines, in the future. The app also reduces the admin associated with running a grassroots team, giving the administration team more time to focus on organizing matches, booking practice slots, and securing funding. The digital payments will also assist in the speedier collection of money, helping the teams run more smoothly.

Raising Funds for Football Beyond Borders

Teaming up with Nike GB, PayPal has raised funds for Football Beyond Borders (FBB). When paying with PayPal during the Christmas campaign, customers could opt to add a donation at checkout. In their later July campaign, PayPal donated £1 from every transaction, up to the amount of £35,000. Over both campaigns run by Nike GB and PayPal, more than £130,000 has been raised for FBB.

Championing the Women in UK Football

PayPal was excited to have the opportunity to "champion [their] female role models on home turf." when they teamed up with The Lionesses, Football Beyond Borders, and the St John's Deaf women's football team. Together, they created a video campaign highlighting the power of women's football in anticipation of the 2023 Women's FIFA World Cup.

Fan Support Off the Field

The payment platform's partnerships with football organizations align with their enduring support for the sport, both directly and indirectly. Off the field, they have been a favoured payment platform for sports betting by fans, and are used by some of the most prominent online betting facilities. Many of the top platforms for PayPal sports betting offer a space for fans to bet on their favourite football teams, with the additional layer of security offered by PayPal keeping their transactions safe.

Dundalk FC's Official Community Partner

In 2022, PayPal became Dundalk Football Club's Official Community Partner, with the aim of supporting the Dundalk FC community programme as well as the team. The programme's goal is to provide support and opportunities to the Dundalk and Co-Louth communities. PayPal has also been a match sponsor for Dundalk FC games.

The payment platform's presence in Dundalk has been a positive one, providing employment to the local community, as well as creating local fundraising opportunities for various charities and relief efforts. San José Earthquakes Further afield, the payment platform has joined forces with the San Jose Earthquakes, securing naming rights to their stadium in 2021. This was a strategic investment move for the company, as its headquarters are based in San Jose, making it important for them to invest in one of the local sports teams.

Not only are they supporting the team, but they are also taking care of the community. They have reserved 250 seats in the stadium for community members with disabilities, offering free tickets and transportation too. They also make sure to promote local businesses at games and encourage youth organizations to make use of the field and join the team for practices.
