Preview: Feyenoord vs. Monaco - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's friendly clash between Feyenoord and Monaco, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Feyenoord will draw the curtain on their preparation for the upcoming campaign with a friendly encounter against Monaco at De Kuip on Wednesday.

The hosts head into this one off the back of a rare but humiliating defeat last time out, while their visitors played out a second straight share of the spoils.

In stark contrast to an otherwise amazing pre-season so far, Feyenoord were comprehensively beaten 5-0 by Benfica in Sunday's meeting at Estadio da Luz.

Greek striker Vangelis Pavlidis led the onslaught on Brian Priske's men, grabbing a first-half double in-between strikes from Gianluca Prestianni and Jan-Niklas Beste, after which Arthur Cabral rounded off the scoring.

That was a first defeat for De Stadionclub since February 22, when they were knocked out of the Europa League on penalties by AS Roma after a 2-2 aggregate draw over two legs.

Feyenoord will now seek to get back to winning ways in their final warm-up fixture before taking on Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven in Sunday's Johan Cruyff Shield final.

Wednesday's hosts have been impressive in front of their fans lately, boasting 10 wins on the bounce across all competitions - the most notable of which came against Ajax in a 6-0 drubbing.

Monaco were held to an entertaining 2-2 draw against Sturm Graz when the teams faced off at Sportanlage Windischgarsten two Saturdays ago.

Adi Hutter's men showed great resolve to come from behind on two occasions through Takumi Minamino and Eliot Matazo, whose strikes cancelled out earlier goals from William Boving and Mika Biereth.

Since winning their final three league matches of last season by a combined score of 10-1, Les Monegasques have now gone four matches without a win, picking up two draws and two defeats.

In light of recent results, Monaco have work to do before the new Ligue 1 season commences on August 18 as they look to build upon a second-place finish last time out.

Luckily for Wednesday's visitors, they still have three more friendlies to put their house in order with the trip to Rotterdam followed by clashes against Genoa and Barcelona.

Team News

Lennard Hartjes recently completed a switch to Feyenoord's city rivals SBV Excelsior, making him unavailable to play any part here.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, defender David Hancko featured from the start for the home side last time out and is expected to retain his place in the XI.

Nineteen-year-old Antoni Milambo could be set for a return to action here having found the back of the net in consecutive games prior to his exclusion against Benfica.

Recent arrival George Ilenikhena could be in line to make his debut for Monaco in this one off the back of his move from Belgian side Royal Antwerp.

Swiss duo Denis Zakaria and Breel Embolo both miss out as they are yet to return for the away side since representing their nation at the European Championships in Germany.

Feyenoord possible starting lineup:
Bijlow; Hancko, Beelen, Kasanwirjo; Lopez, Geertruida, Zerrouki, Nieuwkoop; Paixao, Gimenez, Moussa

Monaco possible starting lineup:
Kohn; Salisu, Kehrer, Singo, Diop; Ouattara, Camara, Matazo, Diatta; Minamino, Golovin

We say: Feyenoord 3-2 Monaco

Given the level of attacking talent on display here, we are anticipating an open and end-to-end contest with neither side holding back.

That said, we also fancy Feyenoord to make home advantage count and get the job done, albeit by only a a narrow margin.
