Vincenzo Montella says that he is pleased with Fiorentina's 2-2 draw with Sampdoria, adding that finishing fourth in Serie A this season will count as success for him.

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella has said that he would be happy to see his side finish fourth in Serie A this season.

The Viola drew 2-2 with Sampdoria in Florence on Sunday to move just two points behind third-place Inter Milan.

"I like our position in the table and it's just a shame that the season doesn't end here," he said.

"We accept the verdict on the field and a draw is understandable against an excellent opponent.

"We tried to win it, but Samp made it difficult for us to develop our usual style of play. After a bad start we picked up the tempo, then went under again."

Montella was appointed the Fiorentina coach in June.
