Stuttgart still waiting for first win

Nicolas Gonzalez could have won it for the hosts.

Stuttgart's winless start to the Bundesliga season continued after they were held to a goalless draw by newly-promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Argentinian forward Nicolas Gonzalez missed a series of chances for the hosts, heading wide on two occasions and seeing another effort kept out by Dusseldorf goalkeeper Michael Rensing.

Dusseldorf, who had taken four points from their opening three games since winning the German second division title, also had chances for victory at Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Stuttgart keeper Ron-Robert Zieler produced a fine save to keep out a towering header from midfielder Marcel Sobottka and then denied a late effort from USA international Alfredo Morales.

The stalemate was the third time in four games that Tayfun Korkut's Stuttgart have failed to score this term, leaving them with two points from a possible 12.
