Colombia stun France in World Cup

Lady Andrade and Catalina Usme score as Colombia beat France 2-0 and edge closer to the last 16 of the Women's World Cup.

Colombia are on course to qualify for the knockout stages of the Women's World Cup after a shock 2-0 victory over Group F favourites France.

The South Americans looked to be on course for a surprise win in Monckton when Yoreli Rincon set up Lady Andrade, who slotted past Sarah Bouhaddi in the 19th minute.

However, France dominated possession for much of the first half and came close to levelling when Eugenie Le Sommer, whose goal helped Les Bleus beat England on Monday, hit the target before the interval.

The Colombians tried to play with adventure and Natalia Gaitan's cross after the break saw Bouhaddi scrambling across her area to cut out.

France tried to get back on level terms, but struggled to test keeper Sandra Sepulveda as Le Sommer and Louisa Necib both shot wide in the early part of the second period.

Philippe Bergeroo's side almost back on terms as Gaetane Thiney burst through on goal. Sepulveda manager to thwart her, but handled the ball outside the box before escaping with only a yellow card.

Les Bleus continued to press as Jessica Houara's deflected effort drifted narrowly wide in the dying minutes.

With seconds remaining and France committing players forward, a swift counter-attack allowed Catalina Usme to score a decisive second and leave Colombia at the top of Group F.
